RAINBOW

A few years ago, on the `The Voice` [the TV singing reality show] I suddenly got ttransfixed on this programme that I don`t usually like watching. But as Debs watched it as I read the sports news on my phone, suddenly I became very excited because who should appear on the show, but the `one and only` Paul Cullinan. Yes, many people`s hero. Paul Cullinan, the legend that is Paul Cullinan. PAUL WHO? I hear you say. To the uninitiated, which is probably all of us, Paul Cullinan was the voice of the legendary superstar `Bungle` from TV`s Rainbow.

Those people over a certain age will know what I`m talking about. Who cared that Paul couldn`t sing as He was in good company with most of the other contestants. Who cared that Paul didn`t get voted on to the next show, because `Bungle `was once again on TV`. And although his bear suit was nowhere to be seen, just Paul speaking in Bungle`s voice was good enough for me and brought a smile to my face. Suddenly, memories of my childhood came flooding back. As a youngster, I used to love watching the different characters on TV`s Rainbow i.e. Geoffrey [Presenter], Zippy, George, Jane, Freddy and of course Bungle. Why? Because the interaction of the characters, the slapstick fun and not forgetting the tune [I reckon you could whistle it if pushed] used to `brighten up my day`. I couldn`t wait to get back from school to watch it and when Bungle arrived `with his customary towel around his waist`, my day was complete. Rainbow, just the word puts a `smile on your face`.

On my travels recently, my eyes were suddenly drawn to the nearby fields as a beautiful rainbow appeared above them, shinning in all its glory. Immediately my mind wandered, fortunately, not back to The Voice or even to that brilliant children’s TV show, but my mind wandered onto God`s wonderful promises. And although the Rainbow is a symbol for numerous things today, just looking at that beautiful rainbow put a `smile on my face` and despite the rain, I couldn`t help but thank God for who He is, for His wonder and for His stunning creation. As I reflected on the rainbow: `it`s colour, beauty and the aroma of fresh rain` during the rest of my journey, these words: `God keeps His promises` kept coming to mind. Going in to the third week of the first month of a New Year, my prayer is that these words: `God keeps His promises`, will not only INSPIRE you to PRAISE God in 2025, not only MOTIVATE you to WORSHIP God to a greater level in 2025, not only STIR you to TRUST God implicitly in 2025, but fundamentally, it will PROVOKE you to PERSEVERE in your Christian faith too in 2025, knowing that `God really does keep His promises`. I hope this is enough to put a `smile on your face` throughout the year.

Whenever a rainbow appears, there is a myth that there is a pot of gold at the end of it, but there`s no myth about the promises of God. Keep believing. Keep trusting in 2025.
