I recently went to see the movie `1917` which is based on a true story about two British soldiers who received seemingly impossible orders. In `a race against time`, they must `put their neck on the line` to cross over into German territory to deliver a message that could potentially save 1,600 fellow comrades.
King George V had called for `men of every class, creed and colour to join the fight of WW1` and these two men did that by facing a formidable and relentless enemy. Furthermore, they were not only shot at with the potential of being blown up around every corner, but they had to encounter booby-trapped buildings and trenches, rats and cope with the stench of dead bodies and stumble through the foul, thick, bloody mud as well and all this to save soldiers from certain death and bring about victory.
And these two men`s exploits made me think about what we should be doing for our KING! King Jesus. What are we prepared to go through to see lives saved for the glory of God? What are we prepared to do to share the Gospel message of Hope? And what are we prepared to do to bring about victory in people’s lives as we fight an even greater enemy, the devil? 2 Thessalonians 3:3 says, `The Lords is faithful and He will strengthen you and protect you from the evil one `.
So, with this verse in mind, what could you be doing with the gifts and abilities that God has entrusted you with, to potentially save people from a lost eternity away from God? Moreover, another word for trench is channel and I want to use the first two lines of St. Francis of Assisi’s famous prayer, `Make me a channel of your peace, where there is hatred let me bring your love` to stir you on Spiritually so that `men and women of every class, creed and colour will join the fight against the evil one`. So, with Christ`s return getting ever nearer, please don`t delay as it really is `A RACE AGAINST TIME`.
Blessings Pastor Steve
REFLECTION What bloody battles have you experienced, spiritually speaking, that you could use to help others who are struggling on their `battlefield of life`?
MEDITATION How has your `running battles` with `life`, toughened you up spiritually and can God depend on you on the `front line` of war against the devil?
ACTION Too many Christians have surrendered their faith rather than serving God. Where could you put your `neck on the line` for the sake of the Gospel?
